The Books on the Underground Family
After Books on the Underground begun picking up steam in London, people from other countries discovered us – and some of these gems decided they would like to have a go in other areas of the world! We recently launched The Book Fairies, too.
Books on the Underground
London, UK – est. 2012
Founded by Hollie and now run by Cordelia, with a group of “Book Fairies”, Books on the Underground was the start of our book-sharing journey. Since inception, we have shared over 2000 books on the London underground, and work regularly with major publishers, authors and also film promoters. We have big plans to help authors to reach new readers through the power of giving, borrowing and social interaction.
Books on the Subway
New York, USA – est. 2013
Books on the Metro
Washington, USA – est. 2014
Nioke in Washington D.C. heard about Books on the Underground and was so keen to get involved, that we supported her in setting up Books on the Metro! She regularly gets new paperbacks out there on the trains. Head over to her twitter to see where they are dropping books next.
Books on the L
Chicago, USA – est. 2014
This is a project set up and run by advertising agency Leo Burnett with our help, and they only distribute books during Chicago Ideas Week. Keep an eye on the hashtag to see what’s happening next.
Books on the Rail
Sydney, Australia – est. 2016
From Ali and Mick: “We launched in April 2016 by leaving our own books and ones purchased from second-hand bookstores on Melbourne trains and trams. Since then, we have developed a passionate and thriving following and now collaborate with publishers and authors, distributing their notable and up-and-coming books.” Visit the website at www.booksontherail.com
